Even a small water stain on wood furniture will spoil its look. Cleaning white rings or droplet stains is easy, all you need is time and patience to do this task successfully.
Last night there was a party at your place, and unfortunately, the guests were careless enough to place their cold beer glasses on them without using the coaster, or some might even have spilled water on them. Now they have dried up and have left unattractive marks on them. You have no idea as to how to remove the stains from the furniture. Here are some steps meant for removing stains off wooden furniture.
Using Toothpaste
Required Materials:
Soft Cloth
Toothpaste
Lemon Oil
Cigarette or Cigar Ash
Furniture Polish and Wax
Baking Soda (in case there is no smoker in your family)
Procedure
Apply some toothpaste on the stain, and make sure that you coat it properly.
Wait for 12 hours and then remove the toothpaste coating with a soft piece of cloth.
Then again wipe it with lemon oil.
For the final touch, polish the furniture.
Remember to use only regular toothpaste and not gel based toothpaste.
Using Cigarette Ash
After the cigarette or cigar ash has cooled down, mix it with a small amount of water, and use it on the water stains. You will notice the difference immediately.
Better still, instead of using cigar ash, use cigarette ash. It tends to work better than the former, for some reason.
If there are no smokers in your family, then use baking soda instead of ash. Make a thick paste of baking soda and water, and rub it on the stain. Leave it like that for 12 hours and then use a soft cloth and lemon oil to wipe it off. Finish it off with furniture polish or wax. You may have to repeat this step twice, in order to completely remove the stain.
Using Mayonnaise or Salt
Apply some mayonnaise or oil on a paper towel and rub it on the affected area. Keep rubbing till the stain is completely gone. Mayonnaise also helps remove water stains which are years old. You can also use a mixture of cooking oil and salt. Rub it on the affected areas, leave on for 15 to 20 minutes, and wipe it off. Your wood furniture is as good as new.
Other Methods
Even a hair dryer can be used, but immediately after the damage is done. The dryer will not allow the water to dry and create a water stain on wood furniture. If the stain is fresh, use the dying out technique. Place a piece of cloth over the mark and then after setting your iron to the lowest setting possible, keep it on the cloth for about 15 seconds. Keep repeating this process until the stain is completely gone. This method is however not applicable for older stains.
Sometimes, it's a tough job removing hard water stains from the wooden furniture. So, instead of worrying about having to throw away your furniture, just follow the steps, sit back, and watch the magic.
