With the kind of busy lives we live today, it has become very difficult for us to keep our kitchen clean. Typically, the kitchen is the busiest place in the house, as it's the place we visit most often. This is where a washable rug comes into play, and selecting the right one needs special attention.
While picking one, you should make sure that it doesn't look like it'll wear out and get destroyed soon. These rugs are made of a combination of materials so that they can withstand continuous movement.

Machine-washable Rugs

These rugs can be easily washed in a washing machine. Today, these rugs have become quite popular, especially in modern homes. Some of these rugs are made of non-slip materials and can also be washed with a hose.
They are an excellent option for the sink area, pantry, and hall, besides the kitchen because of their anti-skid properties. You can wash them as soon as you see them getting dirty, thereby keeping your kitchen more hygienic, clean, and free of germs.

Cotton Rugs

Cotton rugs are made of pure cotton, they are comfortable and quite soft. They are an excellent option if you want an ambient look to your house. Choose from a wide range of styles, they are available in a number of colors which will add to the warmth of your house.
Compared to rugs made of other materials, cotton rugs can be washed a lot more easily, and you can just leave them in the sun to dry before using them again.

Tips to Remember while Buying a Rug

  • The rug should be able to withstand excessive usage. The kitchen is a room which is most frequently used, if not selected well, the rug may wear and tear over time, requiring you to buy another one. It would mean a waste of your money and effort.
  • It should be able to resist moisture and water. There is a lot more water in the kitchen than in other rooms due to the amount of washing and cooking you do every day. This is where a cotton rug can be very useful. Cotton has a unique capacity to soak up water, and this will help you to keep your kitchen clean.
  • If accidentally spill hot water on the floor while cooking or even drop a hot utensil, in such cases, you won't want your floor to be destroyed. The use of a rug will prevent this, but only if you select one which has the capacity to withstand high temperatures.
While choosing a rug, make sure to look at its size. It should be thick enough, where thickness refers to how tightly the threads are interwoven.
Ensure that you wash the rugs at a low temperature, and that the cycle of the washing machine is not on high. Strong detergents, fabric softeners, and bleach should not be used.
Moreover, you should not use a vacuum cleaner on them, and make sure you dry them out on a low temperature once you have washed them.
