As the wallpaper turns old with time, instead of repair, the best option is to remove it. A simple method to do this is by using vinegar. Let's see how it works.

Wallpapers are an easy option when it comes to doing your walls. Instead of painting them, the addition of wallpapers does a quicker job. However, with time, wallpapers fade or get damaged. The best option then, is to replace the existing wallpapers with new ones.

Replacing has many advantages over repairing. You get fresher wallpapers with more life and the chance to change the look of your home. Also, repaired wallpapers will eventually have to be replaced anyway.

First, check if the wallpaper can be stripped off easily. If it comes off easily, then you can peel it off without having to deal with much glue. In order to check, you can strip wallpaper present at the corners. In case the wallpaper comes of easily, opt for method one, or else, opt for method two.

Method #1

Wipe the walls with warm water. Then, use a sponge for wiping off the water. This will loosen the paste and will also help in peeling the wallpaper in a uniform manner. Allow the water to remain on the walls for a few minutes so that the paste absorbs it completely. The next step is to remove the wallpaper. Use a spatula for scrapping the stubborn parts.

In a gallon of water, add a cup of white vinegar. Coat the walls with this wallpaper removal solution. You can use a spray bottle or a sponge for this purpose. Wipe this solution off after a span of ten minutes. Wiping the walls will not only remove excess glue, but also help in removal of left over parts.

Method #2

With a utility knife, score the wallpaper. This will allow the moisture present behind the wallpaper to loosen the glue. Wipe the wall with extremely hot water. Make use of a paint roller for distributing the water evenly. This will peel off the wallpaper. If it does not peel off, repeat the process.

For removing the remaining wallpaper, use a paint spatula. In order to remove the stubborn adhesive, wipe the walls with a damp sponge. Neutralize the walls with a mixture of white vinegar and water.

If the wallpaper and glue don't respond to these methods, use a wallpaper removal steamer or a fabric softener.
