Homemade Vinyl Floor Cleaners

Vinyl floors are available in the form of sheets or tiles, and can be installed over existing flooring. These floors work well for kitchen spaces and bathrooms, including public places that experience heavy foot traffic. Vinyl flooring is also moisture resistant, protects itself from wear and tear, and can easily be installed.

Alcohol and Diswashing Liquid
In a small bucket of hot water, add a squirt of dishwashing liquid (use a mop to lather it up) and half a cup of alcohol. Mop the floors thoroughly or use a cleaning rag to perform this. Use plain water post this step to get rid of any residual cleaner, with a clean mop or rag. If the floors are extremely dirty with stubborn stains on them, this cleaning recipe should be ideal.

Water and Vinegar
Add ½ a cup of white vinegar to a gallon of hot water before mopping the floor, especially if there's an unpleasant odor circulating in the area from anything that may have spilled on it. Wipe away any standing cleaner after you're done with the entire space, using a clean mop or rag. Instead of vinegar, you can use a cup of ammonia to get the job done.

Washing Soda and Water
To a gallon of hot water, add two tablespoons of washing soda, white vinegar, and rosemary oil. Mix it up nicely using the mop, before using it to swab the vinyl floor. With a clean mop or rag, wipe away any standing cleaner after you're done. You can substitute washing soda with baking soda.

Today, there are a number of floor strippers available in the market that help get rid of wax buildup on a surface. Wax and varnish buildup forms a thick layer over the floor surface, giving it a dull, worn-out appearance.

You can use a floor stripper cleaning product or even buy/rent a machine to have the surface cleaned thoroughly. The floor stripper gives you a bare surface that needs a protective coating; a sealant or stain will have to be applied post stripping.

Be sure to polish the floor and keep it free from grime and dirt by following a regular cleaning schedule, like every other day, depending on how filthy the space gets. Concentrate on corners and hidden surfaces that remain concealed with furniture or cabinets, or they'll eventually succumb to damage.
