Cotton is one of the most comfortable fabric that is preferred by most people. It is cultivated in almost all parts of the world. Let us have a look at the different types of cotton.
One of the best ways to beat the scorching summer heat is to opt for clothes that are made up of cotton. Its scientific name is Gossypium spp. and it is a soft, fluffy, staple fiber, which grows around its seeds, in the form of a 'boll'.
It is one of the most widely used fabric in the world because it is multipurpose in nature and can be used to make garments, curtains, bed sheets, carpets, and various other fabrics.

Egyptian Cotton

As the name suggests, it is fine and lustrous, and has long and thin fibers. Its fiber is light brown in color and is used for making strong yarns. It is mostly used for bed sheets, cushion covers, etc.

Sea Island Cotton

This is comparatively more expensive than the others because of its fast growth and easy processing. Its long staple makes it one of the finest cotton counts.
Sea island cotton is popular for its smooth fibers and the silky texture is because it is often mixed with silk. It is used to manufacture garments that are made up of an expensive brand. So, whenever a garment's label reads 'sea island cotton', the piece might get a little heavy on your pockets.

Pima Cotton

The pima cotton belongs to the ELS (extra-long staple) type, that is almost 8 inches or longer. Its quality, similar to the Egyptian cotton. Its strength, softness, durability and absorbency, makes it one of the popular and finest cotton for clothing, towels and sheets.

Asiatic Cotton

India, China, and the Near East, are the places that grow this plant extensively. It has thick and coarse fibers that makes the fabric strong and durable. It is suitable for manufacturing products like blankets, filters, coarse clothes, padding materials, etc.

American Upland Cotton

Another commonly used variety is the American Upland cotton. It is less expensive and has a very basic quality. It is also used to make several types of fabrics. Its versatility makes it the best option for manufacturing shirts, shorts, and denim fabric.
