Did You Know?

The Loctite Power Grab on a Roll is a super-efficient double-sided tape that can support a weight of 100 lbs!
While tearing a piece of tape to seal an envelope or stick your favorite poster on the wall, have you ever wondered if there are other types of tapes out there that can be used for purposes different from the ones that we normally think a tape can serve?
Well, if yes, then you'll be quite glad to know that there are various types of tapes out there that serve an array of purposes, right from sealing ducts to packing cartons.

Still curious to know more? Well, this story enlists some of the common yet not-so-common types of adhesive tapes, along with their applications. Take a look!

Types of Adhesive Tapes

Here we shall look at 6 such tapes that are a must-buy for their respective fields of use. They are designed to make life a lot simpler for the user.

Aluminum Metal Tape

Aluminum tape finds many uses in the electrical industry, where it is valued for its thermal conductivity and resistance to high temperatures.
These tapes are available in various types, and are mainly valued for their ability to retain adhesive properties even in extreme temperatures.

Masking Tape

Masking tape is a thin tape that is easy to tear, and is commonly used in packaging of cartons.
Another common use of masking tape is during spray painting where it is used to cover areas that need to be protected from the paint. It is also used for labeling test samples in a laboratory, as it is easy to write on, because of its texture being similar to that of paper.

Double-sided Tape

While we are accustomed to use the cellophane tape for most of our tasks, it has a major drawback―it cannot be used to stick solid objects to the wall.
This is where a double-sided tape comes in handy, as it has an adhesive coating on both sides. This tape, usually made from cotton paper, is extremely useful in attaching objects to a surface, such as a picture frame to a wall.
Not to mention, these tapes are easy to use, and all you need to do is stick the tape to the surface of one of the objects to be attached, peel off the covering from the other side, and stick it to the other object.

Duct Tape

Duct tapes are strong adhesive tapes that have a wide range of uses.
Although they were invented for the purpose of sealing duct seams, they find a number of uses these days, including making different objects. This tape is one of the most versatile tapes that you can find today, and can be used to fasten anything and everything, and can be used on a range of materials.

Electrical Tape

Electrical tapes are made from an insulating material, and are used for insulating electrical connections (live wires) or connections attached to electrical appliances.
Because of their insulating property, they can be safely used to repair damages or cuts on electrical wires. These tapes are made from vinyl or plastic, and are highly elastic, which is essential for effective insulation. Initially available in black and blue, these tapes now come in a variety of colors.

Cellophane Tape

Invented by the 3M company, who wanted to create something new by applying adhesive to cellophane material, the cellophane tape is perhaps the most common tape in our households today. This transparent tape is used for a number of purposes, including wrapping gifts, creating craft items, sealing boxes, sticking posters on walls, etc.
In addition to the aforementioned, there are many other varieties of adhesive tapes, such as heat-shrink tapes, fiberglass tapes, fire tapes, silicon repair tapes, and cable repair tapes, among others.
