It needs special care and needs to be handled properly due to its weak fibers. Since it is made from cellulose, it is not highly absorbent and is prone of losing strength when it's wet.

■ Check the label to determine if it's safe to handwash the fabric. If it says dry clean, only then don't self-wash it. Do not use any bleach or other strong chemicals.
■ Abstain from using hot or warm water for this material. Stick to cold or moderate water temperature. You can directly run the garment under cold water in a sink or preferably a bathtub.
■ While washing, don't twist or scrub the fabric, just let the water run over the cloth.
If you are washing colored garments, don't soak it in water because color may fade.
■ Put the cloth in the soap water, shaking it slowly. Then wash it off with clean water. Make sure to remove all the suds from the material.
■ You can also machine-wash the garment in warm water switching it to gentle cycle.
■ Acetate fabric should not be twisted after a wash as this can damage its weak fiber. Avoid wringing because this will spoil your garment.
■ For drying the garment, lie it on flat large absorbent towels. Let it air-dry. Place the cloth in its natural shape, keep the towels in a warm, airy place. Drying process takes some time since you have to change the towels and also switch sides of the garment.

■ It tends to burn easily, so always take precautions while ironing your garment.
■ Keep the iron on low temperature and iron on the inside part of the garment while it is still damp.
■ If you want to iron the outer portion keep a pressing cloth over the garment and then iron on the outside.
To Remove Wrinkles Out of Acetate Fabric
■ After you are done washing and letting it air-dry for a while, iron the fabric while its still damp. Place a pressing cloth in between the fabric and iron to protect it from burning.
■ Start by ironing on the wrong side of the cloth, continue ironing until the garment is completely dry.
■ When the fabric is dry, iron it to avoid further wrinkles. Stretch the fabric and iron the right side of the cloth, iron gently to avoid creating more wrinkles.
■ When you are done, hang the material with a non-metallic hanger. Make sure to leave ample space around the fabric to keep other clothing from touching and creating wrinkles.
Other Precautions
■ Circular knits should be kept flat for drying purpose.
■ It is highly sensitive to organic solvents, so maintain a distance between perfumes, nail polish removers, and nail polish.
■ They do not absorb moisture so stick to dry-cleaning only.
