As soon as you find out that termites have starting eating any wooden part or material of your house, you need to take the essential steps to preclude further damage.
Termite damage repair is something that should not be avoided or delayed, as the damage caused by termites can spread to other parts of the affected area and cost you hundreds of dollars.
There are many people who have to face this problem, especially during the rainy season, as in this season, moisture can seep into structures such as wood furniture and foundations. The moisture in the wood is a welcome sign for termites to feed on it.
Termites attack everything that consists of cellulose. Generally, they eat up the structural foundations of the house, which can be really dangerous to the house owners.

How to Repair Termite Damage

The first thing you need to do is to determine the severity and extent of the damage. Termite damage signs are not always apparent. It can happen that from the outside, you can see it as a little damage, but actually there is a colony of termites doing their job on the inside of the wood.
If you are sure that termites have just started eating up the wood, you can take the necessary treatment measures and get rid of the termites with some DIY tips.
However, if you find out that the damage is very severe, it is better to seek professional advice and help. Most of the time, by the time you think of doing the repair, termites have already consumed enough of the wood in your house.
There are some easy methods that can be used on the affected part if the damage caused by termites is mild. If you are certain that the damage is to a lesser extent, and has no chance of spreading further, you can use a wood hardener product for the repair job. These wood hardening products do the task of getting into the damaged wood and filling in the gaps caused by the damage. They bond with the wood and make it durable as it was before being attacked by termites.
If the damage caused looks like long gouges on the surface of the wood, you can use a wooden filler for repairing the damaged portion. Before applying the wood filler, use a chisel to remove the damage. Clean the scraped portion and then use the wood filler. Let it dry and then sand it to match the original shape and pattern of the wooden material which is worked on. You can later apply paint to the hardened wood filler to match it with the color of the wooden material.
In addition to repairing the damage with the help of wood hardeners and fillers, you can also install a new piece of wood beside the repaired wood. This will give extra stability to the structure which is supported by the wood. If the area is totally damaged, it is better to replace the wood altogether. This will rule out the chances of further risks.
If you are finding it very difficult to assess the extent of the actual damage caused by termites, it is strongly recommended that you take help from professionals.
Do not worry much about the cost, as the aggregate fees given to these professionals may be far lesser than the cost of damage caused to your home if the repair is completely ignored, delayed, or unprofessionally carried out.
