Using a roof sealant is an important sealing material used, to protect a roof and house from extreme weather conditions. Know more about the various types of sealant for your home.
A sealant is a viscous material which turns solid after application, protecting a surface from damage caused by dust, smoke, gas, air, water, and other unwanted elements.
Since there are different types of roofs, made from various materials, the respective sealants also vary. The forms in which these sealants are found in, are rubber, tar, paint, concrete, or any other durable covering material, that can withstand external pressure.

Sealant for Stationary Homes

Stationary homes have both flat and sloping roofs and thus, can be coated with an appropriate sealant. Usually, when a house is built, the contractors are the ones who install these sealants as a part of home improvement, but you, too, can apply it on your own whenever required.
The most predominant sealant available in the market are sealant paints or other liquids, as they are easy to apply, dry faster and can be used abundantly. For better results, reapplication is the best option, so using a liquid could be very convenient. We have some options for sealants which can be used for these homes.

Concrete Sealant

Concrete is a mixture of materials that are durable and can protect any surface from any physical harm. For homes that have flat roofs, concrete sealants are a great choice.
Concrete sealants protect the flat roofs from water leaks and excess rainwater seepage, and can be used efficiently as a sealant for leaks. However, concrete sealants also require a waterproof coating that prevents the materials present in it from dissolving, due to leaks.

Clear Sealant

Another great option is clear sealants like polyurethane, acrylic urethane, silicone, butyl, lacquers and varnishes. They can be used to coat both flat and sloping roofs. They are also available in liquid form and are the most widely used sealants, since they are easy to apply.
Clear sealants are waterproof and can protect tiles, metal, masonry and grout work, which are often present in homes.

Sealant for Mobile Homes

In case of mobile homes, or recreational vehicles, it is extremely important to apply sealants, so as to protect the vehicle from harsh weather conditions (excess heat, wind and rain). Like stationary homes, the manufacturers of these caravans can also apply sealant, but for extra protection it is advised that you apply another coat, yourself.
Since these roofs are made from metal and fiber, they are sensitive and can be damaged easily by water and heat. Therefore, you can use rubber, paint, and other water-resistant adhesives, as a sealant. Take a look at the types of sealant you can choose, for your mobile home.

Rubber Sealant

One of the most popular sealants for an RV is made from liquid rubber. These sealants come with an instructional manual, so that application becomes easy. Liquid rubber sealants are useful for mobile homes, as rubber is a material that can keep any type of damage away from the roof. They come in liquid form that solidifies, protecting the roof, efficiently.

Paint Sealant

When we talk about mobile homes, there are many reasons for damage like sun exposure, dust, direct contact with rain, harsh winds, etc. Therefore, one of the cheapest choices of sealants are paint-based in nature. They even protect the roof from cracking. Waterproof paints are a better option and much preferred, than normal automobile paints.
