Pellet Stove Installation

A pellet stove creates heat for residential purposes, and in rare cases is also used for industrial purposes by burning biomass. For the creation of flame, the fuel has to be fed through a hopper (also called storage container) to the burn pot area.

For a room of twelve square meters, a primary heating system producing 5,000 BTU is enough. Factors like floor protection, venting, outside air combustion, space, and electricity requirements should also be considered before the placement. It is easy to clean, use, and is extremely reliable.

● The first thing that you need to be concerned with is the placement. It should preferably be at the center of the room so that there is an even distribution of heat throughout. Some manufacturers suggest that it should be kept at a particular distance from the wall, to prevent the walls from getting affected by the heat.

● The heat generated by the stove should not affect the hearth pad. For this reason, usually a non-combustible one is preferred. It is usually made of stones or tiles. The size should be such that the stove fits properly into it.

● The vent through which the smoke is allowed should be placed in such a way that it does not affect people. Hence, place it away from doors and windows so that no one comes in contact with it.

The smoke must exit the house either through the roof or an opening in the wall. But, the best solution is to allow the smoke to go out directly through the roof, and not the walls.

● Make sure that your floor can hold the weight of the stove and the hopper. Some hoppers are heavy and can contain up to 85 pounds of pellet. Refer to the manufacturer's instruction booklet for information regarding the type of floor required. If it is not suitable for the installation, then you can place it on the hearth.

● The size of pipes required for this stove should be proportionate to it. When bigger than the fireplace outlet, or the vent, the speed at which the smoke is left out is slowed down. This in turn increases creosote buildup; thus, reducing the efficiency. The conditions should be favorable for an optimum and safe performance.

Wood pellets are generally used for fuel required in the stove. They are quite cheap and can also be manufactured at the domestic level. Thus, using a pellet stove can, indeed, prove to be a suitable and a very economic way of consuming energy in all respects. It can also make your room warm, thereby protecting you from the harsh winters.
