How to Make a House a Home Starting with the Outside

Carol Evenson
Part of making a house a home is making it feel like the place where you belong. To some degree, the exterior of the home should be an expression of your personality. A few minor touches to the outside of the house can improve the overall appeal of your house while transforming it into the place you call home.

Clean Up Debris and Other Objects

First and foremost, debris and trash in the areas surrounding the home should be removed. Not only does it make the house look unkept, it also makes the house stand out in a bad way. No one wants their home to be known as the trashy house. Even more, no one wants to come home to a dirty looking home.

Keep it Clean

If there is any paper, cigarette butts, trash or any other type of debris around the home, pick it up. Additionally, remove any pieces of wood, tree branches, chairs or tables that may be spread around. Remove everything so that the area is completely clear of anything.

Cut the Grass and Trim the Bushes

It is amazing how beautiful a home looks when the grass is freshly cut and the bushes compliment the exterior surface of the house. You can hire a lawn care services provider to attend to the landscape of your home, or you can do it yourself. Either way, beautifying the landscape of your home is the quickest way to make it feel cozy and welcoming.

Regular Maintenance

When moving the lawn, it is beneficial to use the edger to shape up the edges of the lawn, and the grass adjacent to the house. Otherwise, the grass grows up the fence and house, making the home itself to not look as sharp as it could. Nonetheless, you want the yard to be at its best at all times.

Decorate the Patio and Other Areas

Outside resting areas such as the front porch, patio or backyard platform area should add color and comfort to the exterior of the house. It does not have to be fancy or overdone.
It should make use of the space available. Chairs and benches work well for creating an area for lounging and conversation.

Enhance Your Outdoor Living Experiences

If you enjoy entertaining guests and having them over for dinner, set up your backyard area for a cookout. Set up one area for the grill, completing that area with cooking and serving surfaces or countertops.
Dress up the patio area with pillows and plants and perhaps a table. Extra chairs can be placed in the backyard around a few tables.

Home

With these tips, you can transform your house into a home all while enjoying it more. Not only will you extend your living space to include the outdoors, you will also improve the aesthetic appeal of your home. All of this makes your house a home while giving it personality.
