Garage Storage Shelves

No matter how hard one tries, it is difficult to keep the garage clean and uncluttered. Using shelves is the best alternative one can choose to keep it organized. These can be built at home with minimum effort and low cost. Constructing them from scratch is much more cost-effective than buying ready-made shelves from the market. One can even give them a customized look. The look can be enhanced with help of proper storage units that look compact.

Instructions

The first thing one needs to do is take the necessary measurements. Creating a proper layout with the help of a pencil is also essential. Before taking the measurements, the area should be properly cleaned.
The next step is to purchase the required material for construction. One can get the required items from a nearby hardware store. The wood should be purchased from a lumber yard. The bracket kit can be purchased from a home improvement store. The wood could be hardwood or plywood, and should be around 3 to 4 inches thick. For shelves prepared from metal or pre-fabricated wire, the dimensions need to be very precise. Once all this is done, the next step is to mount it.
To mount, the materials required include galvanized screws and mounting brackets. Two brackets would be required for installing one shelf, whereas three brackets would be needed for a shelf that is above the height of 5 feet. A special mounting hardware is available in the market for installing them on concrete blocks, cement blocks, or even the drywall. Holes need to be drilled in order to mount the hardware.
The aforementioned steps tell us how to organize the garage. The results can be quite good, provided you are ready to give it the required time and effort.
