Persian rugs require a lot of care and attention and only regular cleaning can ensure that its beauty remains intact for several years to come. Here, we give you some guidelines on how you can clean these carpets with ease.

Every Persian rug manufactured is a piece of beauty in itself, and completely different from another. If you have invested in an authentic rug, then maintaining its beauty would be one of your main concerns.

Cleaning it in the correct manner will help preserve its quality, extend its durability, and prolong its attractive looks. You may find it very difficult to ask for professional help every time, and stains can haunt you time and again. In such a situation, it is essential that you have a few tips under your belt that will ease the cleaning process.

Vacuum

Vacuuming is an integral part of the cleaning process. The movement needs to have a back and forth swing in the same direction. If you are using the carpet tool in order to vacuum, then ensure that you adjust the suction according to the area that you are cleaning.

A beater brush vacuum should be set in such a way that the top pile just touches the brush and moves smoothly along the rug. Once in a while, turn it upside down and vacuum the bottom. This will pull away any dirt trapped on the underside.

Rotate

Many overlook the importance of rotating their rugs. Essentially change its position as frequently as possible. If you observe it closely, you'll notice that areas that have a high foot traffic are more worn out and dirtier than other areas. To ensure that the wear and tear of the carpet is uniform throughout, keep rotating it once in every 6-10 months.

Remove Stains

Accidents are common in most homes, and it is not unheard of for stains from coffee, juice, milk, dye, pet urine, etc. to mar the beauty of your rug. If this happens, then the first thing you need to do is to pick up anything that you can clear out with immediate effect.

Blot the stain with a clean towel. You can use club soda or white vinegar mixed with water in equal proportions to neutralize the stain. After this, blot the stain with a clean towel again. You can then use a mild detergent to clean it. Once it dries, you need to comb it along the pile. Never rub over the spot, as it causes further absorption of the stain.

Shampoo

Once you clean the rug with a vacuum cleaner, place it in an area where you will be able to shampoo it comfortably, and the water will drain away with ease. A patio or a driveway would be a good option.

Place it on the floor and run cool water over it. We suggest that you place a plastic covering before you position the carpet so that no dust from the floor is attached to the rug. Test a corner before you wet it entirely. If the color does not run, you can wet its entire area.

Shampoo it, and with a long, bristled brush, softly brush along the grain of the pile. Clean the fringes and brush away from the rug. Take a hose and rinse out the shampoo. Take a window squeegee or a sponge and remove excess water. Lay it flat on a dry surface and switch on the fan.

You can even seek professional help to clean a carpet. For something as authentic (and maybe expensive) as a Persian rug, it is always better to take help from someone who understands the process well and has experience in it, especially if the stain seems very stubborn. However, cleaning the carpet at home will surely preserve its beauty for a long time.
