However, cleaning your mattress can be a difficult and laborious task, especially if you have young children and pets in your home. Regardless of every care and precaution, they somehow manage to give your mattress some really stubborn stains either by dropping food or drink, or simply by soiling it.

How to Clean a Mattress

The best way to keep your mattress clean and spotless is protect it from dust, dirt, or liquid spills. For protecting it from dust, dirt, and mites, you can use a waterproof mattress pad or a mattress protector. It can significantly reduce the frequency of cleaning.
A mattress bag and covers can also be used for this purpose, which can provide a protective covering to your mattress, and keep it clean from dust particles, mites, pollen, and dirt.
This can help keep the mattress and bed clean, and prevent or reduce the frequency of allergic reactions that can be produced by these allergens. However, these mattress pads or bags should be cleaned at regular intervals, in order to keep your bed clean and fresh.
For cleaning your mattress at regular intervals, a vacuum cleaner can be used. Do not wash the mattress frequently with harsh cleaning products and water.
Steam cleaning at regular intervals is sufficient to remove dirt and stains from your mattress. But after steam cleaning, make sure to dry your mattress properly, as moisture creates a favorable atmosphere for the growth of fungi and molds. You can also use a mild fabric cleaner for cleaning the mattress occasionally.
The most challenging part of cleaning is the removal of stains left behind by urine and liquid spills. Be sure to clean the mattress as soon as possible before the stains settle on the fabric.
For any liquid spilled on your mattress, you can use a towel or absorbent cloth to soak it up completely. Then you can use a mild soap or detergent cleaner to remove the stain and the odor.
You can also try the 'dry suds' method for removing stains without wetting your mattress. For this, mix a mild detergent in warm water and stir to produce lather. Then apply the dry suds on the part of the mattress to be cleaned, and scrub the area gently.
If the odor is still there, then sprinkle some baking soda and rub it gently. Now, use a vacuum cleaner to remove the soda from the mattress.
So, regular vacuum cleaning, along with occasional steam cleaning are sufficient to keep your mattress clean. But remember to place a clean cover or a mattress bag over it to protect the mattress from dust, stains, and dirt. Be sure to follow the instructions mentioned in the user manual for proper care and maintenance of your mattress.
