Amazing Uses of Vodka

Did you ever wonder about the utility of vodka apart from drinking? Probably, you won't be having many uses coming up in your mind. If that's the case, why not find out its various uses! May be that vodka bottle could prove useful in some other way!
Vodka is a beverage obtained by potatoes, grains, or molasses through distillation. The standard alcoholic content in the beverage is 40% or more in brands produced in the United States. It has no smell or taste of its own, but has a certain nutritional value. There are different types of it available in the market. People use it mostly for drinking. Medicinal Uses

✦Skin contact with a poison ivy leaf or oak causes skin rash. This rash can be soothed by pouring vodka on the affected skin, as it washes away the urushiol oil secreted by the plant.
✦A jellyfish sting is very painful and unbearable. A person stung by a jellyfish can be instantly treated by external application of vodka on the point of attack. It disinfects the skin and helps in decreasing the chances of getting infected.
✦A vodka lavender tincture can be prepared to provide relief from pain and body aches. In a clean, transparent jar, place some lavender flowers along with vodka. Keep the jar in sunlight for 3 days. Strain the liquid from the jar and store it in a bottle. The tincture is now ready for use.
✦This drink is also useful in relieving a toothache. Take a shot of it in the mouth and let it be in contact with the aching tooth for sometime. This will slightly numb the particular area and will provide pain relief. This can be used as a home remedy. Do not forget to get your dentist's appointment for proper checkup
✦Vodka can be used as an astringent to cleanse the skin.
✦It helps in removing toxins from the hair and enhances hair growth.
✦A water-vodka ice bag can be prepared by mixing equal volumes of water and the drink, and freezing the mixture in a zip-lock packet. This pack can be used to relieve body aches and dark circles around the eyes.
✦It can be used to make a mouthwash gargle. In a container, take one cup of vodka and add 9 tbsp cinnamon powder to it.
Close the container and keep it aside for two weeks. Strain the liquid and fill it in a bottle. When using as a mouthwash, take small quantity of liquid, mix with warm water and rinse your mouth. Do not swallow the mouthwash.
✦It acts as a disinfectant when applied to open blisters on the skin.
✦To treat an aching ear, pour some vodka in, let it be there for two minutes and drain it out. This will provide relief by killing the bacteria in the ear.
✦Vodka helps in reducing fever when used as a liniment on the chest and back.
✦Dandruff can also be controlled with its use. Two teaspoons of rosemary in one cup vodka is set aside for two days. The mixture is strained and applied on the scalp as a measure to reduce dandruff.

Other Uses

✦Vodka can be used for cleaning jewelry. Place the jewelry in it for some time. Then rinse and dry.
✦It can be used to remove glue left behind by a sticker.
✦A lipstick stain on the cloth can be removed by applying a little vodka on the stain, leaving it for sometime, and then giving it a normal wash.
✦Prevent rusting of razor blades by placing the used blades in a cup of vodka.
✦Bathroom fixtures can be cleaned using a cloth soaked in vodka.
✦Fresh flowers can be preserved longer than usual by simply adding a teaspoon of sugar and few drops of vodka in the vase.
✦Vodka can be used as an insect repellent. Spray its mixture with water on the bugging insects using a spray bottle to get rid of them.
✦Bad foot odor can be controlled by washing feet with it as it kills odor producing bacteria on the foot.
✦Cleaning spectacles is easy, using a soft cloth with a hint of vodka on it.
✦A bandage can be easily removed by soaking in it, as it dissolves the bandage adhesive and helps in easy removal without pain.
Apart from the mentioned uses, vodka is also used extensively in cooking. There are many recipes having it as an ingredient because it is a neutral spirit and does not alter the actual taste of the recipe.
